With a menu that stresses fresh, locally sourced ingredients, it's not just a place to grab a meal—it's an experience that resonates with authenticity.

At Usuyaki Cafe, the specialty lies in their namesake delicacy, Usuyaki. This traditional dish is a subtle blend of flavor and texture that showcases the owner's dedication to quality. For just 500 yen for an A set and 800 yen for a B set, you'll be treated to a perfectly balanced combination of sweet and savory fillings. Imagine savoring the potato, Japanese leek, and miso usuyaki, with its comforting warmth, paired flawlessly with the rich, indulgent chocolate, banana, and marshmallow perilla. It’s a symphony of flavors that dances on your palate, leaving you eager for more.

The ambiance at Usuyaki Cafe is equally enchanting. With a homely feel, you’re greeted by the charming owners whose warmth puts you at ease from the moment you step in. Customers rave about the personal touch that makes every visit memorable—whether it’s being served steaming hot water on a chilly day or enjoying one of the owners’ special homemade scones alongside your meal.

Don’t just take our word for it! As one enthusiastic patron, Lauren Harrison, shared: “What a beautiful little cafe! The usuyaki and perilla were so delicious that we came back for lunch!” It’s this kind of genuine love for both the food and the experience that keeps locals and travelers alike coming back to this cozy spot.

In addition to the delightful usuyaki, the cafe owner’s commitment to utilizing produce grown right on their land strikes a chord with many visitors. Customer Arz Eats highlighted the “amazing local pancakes” and insisted on trying the cocoa fried bread—a must-order for all chocolate lovers. And if you're looking for something cozy, the pasta dish has been described as having “Michelin-quality taste” combined with that comforting, homecooked warmth. Truly, a visit to Usuyaki Cafe is not only about food; it’s about a connection to the land and to the people who pour their hearts into their craft.

Whether you’re exploring Matsumoto or seeking a quiet place to unwind, Usuyaki Cafe promises a culinary experience fused with heartfelt hospitality. The owners are lovely people and so is their food! We tried two of their Usuyaki (pictured), the local delicacy, and both were delicious. They brought us some hot water to drink (it is very cold at the moment!) and a little plate of pickled vegetable. I highly recommend visiting.

Amazing local Cafe - the owner serves produce grown on his land. It was a great experience seeing a local passionate about his food and work. The local pancakes are comforting and delicious. I definitely recommend a visit to this Cafe if you're in Matsumoto. Definitely order the cocoa fried bread.

What a beautiful little cafe and the food the usuyaki and perilla were so delicious this morning that we came back for lunch! Breakfast I had the potato, japanese leek and miso usuyaki and the chocolate, banana and marshmallow perilla (came to 400 yen!!) Then came back for lunch and had the pasta, with soup salad and a drink... and another perilla (came to 1700 yen - nearly £9 for all.. unheard of in the UK for this standard!!) The owners are so friendly and lovely.. we will be back tomorrow morning before we leave It has been our favourite meal in Japan so far!!

We really enjoyed our lunch here. The warm welcome from the owners was a great start, the local food, usuyaki, with various sweet and savoury flavour options were absolutely delicious, and the scone was another menu highlight. Highly recommend!

I had the best pasta I ever had in Japan here. It was Michelin-quality taste, combined with the warmth of a home-cooked meal. You could also definitely taste the freshness of the ingredients they used. The owners are so lovely and kind too. They make you feel so welcome in this store. They have this world map with pins of all the people around the world who had visited the store, and it was filled! Just goes to show how good their food is. I am still thinking about how good that pasta is…

We bought three types of Usuyaki to go returning from Kamikouchi. The Usuyaki with a little chocolate and banana was made of rice flour, the cheesy Soba flour Usuyaki was savory and the other Usuyaki of locally-grown flour included sweet potato and ginger. Sorry to have missed their today’s dish because we had our car waiting outside. No parking.

The Usuyaki local pancakes were very good. Each of the flavors were tried were good, so nothing to steer away from. We got the morning combo which included a hearty chicken and vegetable soup.
